Holly Jolly Time in Oceanport
Oceanport: Cub Scouts Pack #58 placed the last few decorations on the newly planted spruce tree at Borough Hall on Sunday evening. Choir members from Shore Regional High, Oceanport Maple Place and Wolf Hill schools were going over their musical program which began at 5 p.m.
The Borough Hall parking area was the stage for the holiday tree lighting even though the building was still dark following Hurricane Sandy. Shore’s choir masters Kevin Pryor and Maple Place’s Erica Spiegel led the songsters and Oceanport Rec Commission representative Joanne Hunt welcomed all and introduced Mayor Mike Mahon.
The mayor’s message was brief in the cool night air. He introduced Congressman Frank Pallone and Freeholder Serena Di Maso and Council member Joe Irace and Richard Gallo. He thanked the Borough’s fire department, public works and recreation members for giving their time so this special uplifting event could take place. He thanked everyone for keeping the spirit of Oceanport alive...with resilience and hard work the town has a very bright future.
The musical program completed just as Santa Claus arrived high atop a fire engine with sirens and horns blaring. Ol' Saint Nick led the youngsters and their parents to the Port-Au-Peck firehouse nearby for cookies and hot chocolate.
