Ocean: In a ceremony at Borough Hall, Ocean Police Sgt. Tim Torchia was sworn in as Lieutenant at the beginning of the council meeting on September 12, 2012. Lt. Torchia had served in the Criminal Investigation Bureau as the Sergeant of the Juvenile Section. In his new post he is assigned to the Patrol Bureau where he had served previously when he was promoted to Sergeant in 2009. .

Lt. Torchia began his law enforcement career with the Deal Police Department in 1995 as a dispatcher. He became a police officer for the Borough of Deal in 1996.

He came to the Ocean Township Police Department in 1998 where he worked in the Patrol Bureau until August 2005. He was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau and later worked in the Adult and the Juvenile Sections of the Bureau as a detective.

Mayor Bill Larkin conducted the swearing in as council members looked on, wishing him well. Chief Steven Peters addressed the audience and recalled Lt. Torchia’s experience and career, congratulating him on his success in advancement with the department.

Tim’s father, Joseph Torchia, was Chief of the Ocean Twp police department from 1988 to 1991. His great uncle Dominic Torchia was a past police chief in Deal. Tim’s brother Greg Torchia is currently an officer with the Avon Police Department.

At the Council ceremony he was joined by his wife Jennifer and their daughter Avery, 7 and son Anthony, 5. The couple is married 10 years in October. Torchia’s interests are golf, baseball and swimming, while Jennifer is also a personal trainer.
