Ocean:School Superintendent John Lysko commended the 300 graduates at the June 19th Commencement Exercises for their success in their education thus far, the first 12 years. He encouraged them to “keep the bar high” for the life goals they set for themselves. He said, less challenging goals “Is not an option” if they want to succeed as individuals.
“You had parents, teachers, administrators and the community behind you,” he said. He said that now it is up to each one to take the responsibility for their lives. “Strive for greatness,” he said.
His speech followed similar challenges to her classmates by Salutatorian Hayley Wellner, who is headed for the University of Virgina next year. Future Rutgers University student and Class of 2012 Valedictorian Anuja Sarwate commended her classmates and thanked them all for their friendship, encouraging them to achieve all they can be. The value of friendships and community participation was stressed by all the speakers.
Class President Anthony Caruso was the emcee for the program, with a poise and friendly manner, managing the stage masterfully. Mr. Joe Hadden spoke for the Board of Education wishing a bright future as they meet with life’s opportunities as well as challenges.
“It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” was sung by the choir as Seniors joined the group for one last song together.
Spartan Scholar Awards went to 60 seniors; 29 Department Awards were given out; more than 130 scholarships were announced. Three dozen National Honor Society members were among the classmates.
