Long Branch:  Long Branch Police Cpl. Sam Tomaine was on patrol on Saturday when he notice a large black cloud of smoke in the North Long Branch area. On investigating he saw an Academy bus on Ocean Avenue pulled over at the corner of Avenel Avenue with the smoke pouring from the rear engine compartment.  The bus driver was standing nearby, a safe distance from the bus.

Flames were coming from the rear as Tomaine called in the report. Firefighters were on the scene in minutes given they were returning from a call in the area. Responding were West End #3, Oliver Byron and Independent #2, the 2 career engine companies, 1 ladder, and the Elberon Company.
