After Provisional Vote Count, Connelly Wins Election By 2 Votes

EATONTOWN: The provisional votes have been tallied and Republican Dennis Connelly is now on top in the borough's mayoral election race.

Thirteen provisional ballots were reviewed by county board of elections and six were deemed ineligible. Of the 7 remaining, two did not have a mayoral vote, four people voted for Connelly and one voted for Mayor Gerald Tarantolo brining the total number of votes to 1,481 for Connelly and 1,479 for Tarantolo.

Tarantolo, a Democrat, told Word On The Shore last week that, "Because of the closeness of the current vote count I am of the opinion that a recount is inevitable by either side."

After the Nov. 4 election, Tarantolo had a 1-vote lead over Connelly with 13 provisional votes yet to be counted. The final election results are expected to be certified on Nov. 13.

Connelly's running mates, Mark Regan and Donna Mazzella-Diedrichsen were victorious and will fill two seats on the Eatontown Council from 2015-2017.
