OCEAN TOWNSHIP:The following is a press release from the Ocean Township Police Department:
On Sept. 12 at approximately 9:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Shell gas station located at 805 Deal Rd.
Upon arrival, officers determined that the accused had already fled the scene in a Chevrolet pickup truck.
An investigation revealed that the accused, a 33-year-old Ocean Township resident, had physically assaulted an attendant at the station after a dispute over the amount of gas that was to be dispensed into his vehicle. He then fled the station without paying for the gasoline.
The accused was identified by the license plate provided by witnesses. The man was contacted and responded to police headquarters a short time later where he was placed under arrest. He was charged with one count of robbery and released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear at a future court hearing.
Police also seized a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck pursuant to the state's forfeiture laws due to it being used in the commission of a crime.
