West Long Branch: The borough’s Shade Tree Commission planted a hearty, blossoming 12-foot Yoshino Cherry tree in Franklin Lake Park on Thursday evening in celebration of National Arbor Day and the beginning of the season for the commission programs.
“Last year, for 2013 the commission planted six trees at various spots in the park,” Chairperson Ellen Whitford told WOTS.
The lake park has lost a few trees including four cherry trees, and two others, including a Red Oak.
“This Yoshino Cherry looks very healthy and strong, “Councilman and Shade Tree Liaison Fred Migliaccio explained to Mayor Janet Tucci.
They were among the commission’s welcoming group when the Holmdel Nursery team arrived to properly plat the new addition.
Also attending were Shade Tree Commission member Eileen Cieri and Carolyn Serebreny. Member Paul Giglio was not able to attend.
The Commission program has more activities in the planning stages.
“They include more action at the lake, probably around summer and music programs,” Whitford hinted.
