LONG BRANCH: The city's summer season will begin this weekend with its first big event, Art in the Park on Sunday, May 25.
The 16th annual event will be held in West End Park on the corner of Ocean and Brighton Avenues from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Art in the Park is a Long Branch Arts Council and Long Branch Historical Association-sponsored art and fine crafts fair that emphasizes original works.
“If you’re on the lookout for a unique gift, or something really special for your home, this is your chance to meet some of the region’s most creative people, and talk to them, person to person, about their work,” Art in the Park Coordinator Mare Akana said in a release.
Hundreds of people attended last year's event and more than 50 artists participated. Event organizers are hoping for similar numbers this year with a host of first-timers and returning artists.
Photographers, painters, sculptors, jewelry designers and photographers, along with special guest canine artists and therapy dog Hoagy, will be on hand this year.
Madison Avenue will be providing live entertainment for the event on a new outdoor stage.
