Asbury Park: The annual run in the city as part of the Jersey Shore Golden Prix Series was run on Saturday with a field of 1,048 contestants, 150 greater than the 2011 event. The humidity was near 100% and the temperature about 80 as the runners started the two-loop event which finished on the boards near Convention Hall.
Winner of the Asbury Park 5K on Saturday was Andrew Brodeur, age 22 of Brick with a time of 15 minutes, 39 seconds. He was followed by John Trautman, 44 of New York City at 16:30 and Geoff Harrison, 41 of Fair Haven, 16:47. Trautman took third last year with a 16:35.
In the womens race first went to Jennifer Nelson, Barnegat with a 17:49 time. Second was Cheyenne Ogletree, 23 Garfield, 18:0 while third was Dactilia Booth, Long Branch, in 18:43. Her timing in 2011 was 18:10.
Other finishers in the Top 50 from the Word On the Shore area readers were Jack Goh and Meil Martin, Brenda Clark, Dan Rosenblatt (Oakhurst) Ocean; Harold Nolan, Monmouth Beach; Michael Metiltz and Dawn Wilcox, Little Silver.
The final race in the Golden Prix will be September 3, the Pier Village 5K on the boards in Long Branch.
