LONG BRANCH: The sounds of one of the most popular bands in the history of rock and roll filled the air of Pier Village this week.
"The music is the Beatles and the band, The Weeklings, are much more than I expected," West Long Branch resident Valerie Manzo said at this week's Thursdays By The Sea concert on July 2. "They're terrific."
The somewhat smaller crowd than usual was most enthusiastic. They cheered each song on hearing the opening bars of melodies like "All My Lovin," "Hard Day's Night," and "Help." The Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr copycats delivered a great evening to the crowd of toe-tapping, hip- swinging Beatlemanians.
The Weeklings will be opening for Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes on Friday at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
THe Monmouth County Sherriff's Office had its special portable observing booth at the boardwalk for this weekend. July Fourth is Oceanfest in Long Branch all day from 10 a.m., with 9 p.m. fireworks.
The Chuck Lambert Band is at Blues by the Beach in West End on July 5, with The Nerds will be at Festival Plaza July 9.
