Benefit Planned For 15-Year-Old Hit-And-Run Victim

A Middletown business owner who witnessed a crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old Highlands girl has planned a fundraiser to benefit her family.

Marissa Procopio was the victim of a hit-and-run on July 7 on Route 36 and tragically died a few days later in the hospital. Lisa Natale, the owner of the Middletown Mexican restaurant Traveling Tortillas saw the accident occur and donated 50 percent of her July 8 sales to the family.

She has planned another fundraiser for Saturday, July 11 from 4 p.m. to midnight at her restaurant where all the evening's proceeds will be donated to the family. Donation jars will also be set up for those who want to donate further and Natale is also collecting gift cards for a basket raffle.

Her restaurant, which doubles as D'Alessio's Bagel Express in the morning and early afternoon, is located 949 Route 36, Middletown.
