West Long Branch: Coming off a tough loss against Point Beach, the Shore Regional Blue Devils had no choice but to pick themselves up against the Asbury Park Blue Bishops in the Group I, Central Jersey Semi-Finals.
From the get go Shore showed both focus and determination by playing clean and crisp defensive football. Within three minutes into the contest, senior two-way player Mark Costantino, broke free for a 59 yard run from scrimmage.
On the ensuing Asbury Park possession, Shore recovered a fumble; however, the Blue Devils had to settle for a chip-shot field goal, making the score 10-0.
It was not until the second quarter that the Blue Bishops were able to must any type of offense. Combining punishing off-tackle runs, screen plays, and one long pass, the Blue Bishops were able to find the end zone on a Quarterback option to the right hand side.
Relying heavily on the hot hand, Mark Costantino, the Blue Devils moved the ball down the field. This drive set up the second running touchdown of the game for #13 making the half time score 17-7.
Shore continued to push around for most of the second half limiting their offensive possessions while producing long sustained offensive drives capped.
Mark Constantino continued to have a monster game scoring a total of four running touchdowns during the contest. It is clear that he is a key player and is responsible for most of Shore’s running offensive possessions.
With three minutes left in the period, the Blue Devils were ahead 31-7 and were confident that they would be advancing to the state finals where they will match up against #3 seed Florence in the Group I Division Finals.
