West Long Branch: The Shore Regional High School Varsity Field Hockey Team continued their winning ways on Wednesday, October 10th with a dominating 8-1 victory over the Keyport Raiders.
The Raiders scored the first goal of the contest a little less than three minutes into the first half. But whatever momentum they had quickly faded as the Blue Devils took control of the game. For the next five minutes, the Blue Devils played most of the game in the Raider’s zone. At 23:11, the Blue Devils tied the score at 1-1.
As the Raiders continued to struggle offensively, the Blue Devils took over the game by scoring five more times making the score 6-1 at the half.
The second half was more of the same with Keyport backed into their defensive end most of the period. There were however several drives into Shore’s offensive zone, which challenged both the defenders and the net minder alike. Unfortunately, Keyport was unable to find a way to put one behind the game-tested Shore Regional goalie.
With a comfortable lead, the Blue Devils played a very conservative second half. Although at times the Raiders moved the ball well against the Blue Devils, Shore was able to recovery quickly from most advances that the Raiders may have made. This left them vulnerable to a potent Blue Devil’s offense, which happened to score twice more in the second half. The Blue Devils scored seven unanswered goals in the contest making the final score 8-1.
