LONG BRANCH: The band Madison Avenue was back in town on a balmy evening, just missing a shower at the off-Broadway bandshell - Tuesday Night of the summer season in the city.
The clouds scared away some guests, but those who made it (many came a bit late) were delighted, caught up in the songs, sounds of the "70s and "80s - "Contemporary" Barry Stein called it.
There was soft rock, a trip into country, and dance numbers. Music lovers heard the Eagles' "I'm Already Gone" and "I Can't Tell You why", along with songs by Chicago, Stephen Sills and other favorites from not that long ago.
The vocals were great, a new singer pouring out a strong voice with help on several numbers from band members, the baritones of the tuneful team.
The drum role was from Bob Clarke, who heads the music department at Long Branch High, the only "local" on the stage.
