Broadway Hosts First Long Branch Summer Concert

LONG BRANCH: A noted bass vocalist himself, Urban Enterprise Zone Director Jacob Jones -aka Jake- welcomed the Rave On band to the Broadway Bandshell and the "Downtown Tuesday Nights" music program.

The music was Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Elvis and a few others from the Rock and Roll era. "They even sound like Buddy Holly," Jake said as he quietly sang along with lyrics on the tip of his tongue.

The first Tuesday Night gig of the season was before a modest audience of about 100, all familiar neighborhood fans. They were recalling the sounds of yesterday, "Siting on the Dock of the Bay", "Get Your Kicks on Route 66", and a non-stop concert for 90 minutes of lawn-style theatre.

The park is full of green plush grass, with plenty of free parking in the lot adjoining, just behind Brookdale Community College. It is delightfully welcoming, comfy and open air as anyone could ask for. A beach chair haven with a blankets option.

The shows start at 7 p.m.

The next band on the schedule will be the immensely popular Swing Sabroso with Ray Rodriguez. It is Latin rhythm and dance at is best, said Jake, recalling the hit the band made last year.

An added band show on July 28 will be The Cameos band, a Doo Wop group, originally scheduled for the Jersey Shore Car Show in June that was canceled by rain.
