Monmouth Beach:This past weekend, the parents of the Monmouth Beach 8th grade class organized the annual camp out on the beach fundraiser. Spearheaded by both Mary Mazzacco and Maria Murphy, this event helped to raise over two thousand dollars, which will help offset costs associated with the upcoming class trip to Boston.
Participants could pre-register or walk up with their tents in hand. Upon paying the $25 tent fee, campers were helped to their designated spot by 8th grade students. There children would help set up tents, tables, and other camping equipment.
By dusk there were close to 100 tents erected on the beach. Campers who arrived early had established mini communities of family and friends. Some tent communities had over 100 people in them all sharing home made food and beverages.
Throughout the early evening bands, Dee Jays, and other live entertainment played on the patio of the south-end beach club. In addition to live entertainment, there was a large bonfire burning near the water that attracted a large crowd as well. Almost every child in the crowd was illuminated by the glow of multicolor light sticks. As children ran across the sand, their colorful radiance raced with them creating bursts of motion blur shooting between tents.

Quiet hours started at approximately 10:30pm and ran through 7:00am. Upon wake up, the group organized an optional “good morning swim” at around 8:00.
This annual event draws a huge crowd and was benefitted equally by the terrific weather. Without the hard work and support of the parents, community, and the borough administration, this event would not have been possible.
