LONGBRANCH: The city's special events calendar is getting a bit of a makeover this summer.
Long Branch Special Events Coordinator Danna Kawut recently announced a few changes to the summer concert series beginning with an altered Sunday schedule in West End.
The Sunday concerts will no longer be called Blues By The Beach, it will now be known as Bands By The Beach or Sundays By The Beach.
"We're still going to have mostly blues, but we are also looking into some others," Kawut said.
She said there have been discussions with a reggae band, a county group, "just to get a different feel down at West End Park."
The first Sunday concert will be June 12 and the last one will be Aug. 28.
Thursday concerts at Pier Village will kick off on June 16 with Tim McLoone and the Shirleys.
Kawut said the city is adding a concert to Sept. 1 to act as a kickoff to Labor Day weekend. There will be fireworks with Brian Kirk And The Jirks, will perform as the finale for the Thursday By The Sea series.
There will be three Tuesday night shows at the Broadway bandshell on July 19, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16. Kawut said one of these shows could be held uptown, but that the details are still being discussed.
She said the Tuesday night bands will have an "international feel," to highlight the diversity in that area.
West End Cruise Night will be Saturday, Aug. 13. The event will include classic cars and Kawut said the city is working on getting a "big-name band" to headline the event.
There are currently no plans for the Father's Day Car Show at the boardwalk at this time.
