City Woking Toward Agreement For Two Oceanfront Redevelopment Projects

LONG BRANCH: The city council has conditionally designated builders as redevelopers for two oceanfront projects.

The Long Branch Council passed resolutions during its Aug. 11 meeting authorizing the redevelopment committee to "pursue collaborative project design development and the negotiation of a redevelopment agreement" with Mark Built Properties At Long Branch, LLC and Bluffs Development, LLC.

Mark Built Properties is looking to build a 7-story building on the former Cabana Club property with 57 units of 1- and 2-bedroom housing. The Cabana Club was a bar and restaurant, located at 310 Ocean Ave., which closed in 2013 and has been sitting vacant since that time.

Bluffs Development is seeking approval for a 33-unit, 6-floor building on the site of the now-closed Jake's Gym at 290 Ocean Ave. The gym has been closed for almost 3 years and a vacant building now sits on the lot.

Both projects are located in the city's Beachfront South redevelopment zone, so the developers must get final approval from the Long Branch Planning Board or Zoning Board before beginning any type of permitting or construction.
