Closed Long Branch Gym Slated For Residential Reuse

LONG BRANCH: An Ocean Avenue development project has been presented to the Long Branch Council.

Bluffs Development, has proposed to build a 33 unit-condominium development on the lot which currently contains the closed Jake's Gym. The gym has been closed for about 3 years and a vacant building now sits on the lot located at 290 Ocean Ave.

The building would be 80-feet tall at its highest point but that is only at the very center of the structure. That tallest point would be on the seventh floor and would contain a small pool, and sun deck in a common area.

Project architect Michael Monroe said the unit sizes range from 900-square feet to approximately 4,000- square feet. The smaller units are located within the main structure and others are located in "oceanfront villas" and "beach houses" which are are all connected to the main structure.

There are also 78 parking spaces proposed for the lot.

The plans were actually presented earlier this year but tweaked slightly based on feedback from the city's redevelopment attorney and planners.

The project is located in the city's Beachfront South redevelopment zone, so the developer must be approved by the Long Branch Council before obtaining final approval from the Long Branch Planning Board or Zoning Board.
