SEA BRIGHT: It may have taken longer than most expected, but the borough council has awarded a contract for the construction of a new municipal building.
The Sea Bright Council unanimously passed a resolution awarding the contract to the lowest bidder, UniMak LLC of Saddle Brook, at a cost not to exceed $7,098,000 during its March 6 meeting.
"It's a good day for Sea Bright," Councilman Marc Leckstein said following the resolution's adoption.
The contract award comes after the borough's second attempt to find a company to perform the work. During a special meeting on Jan. 30, the council was looking to award a bid for the project. However, all of the bids came in too high. The lowest bid at that time was submitted by Hassert Construction for $7.6 million.
The municipal complex will be located in the footprint of the old Sea Bright Police Department and fire house at the southern end of the municipal parking lot where police trailers are currently housed.
It will serve as meeting and vehicle storage space for the police, fire departments and EMS. Borough functions such as the clerk's office, planning and zoning and tax collection office will also be located in the complex.
The first floor will have seven bays for emergency vehicles including fire apparatus and ambulances. It will also have space for several police and fire functions including a booking room and holding cell. There will be several large bay doors on either side of the building and a parking lot for police vehicles to east.
The second floor will have additional offices, meetings rooms and storage space for the police and fire departments as well as the municipal offices. There will be a small floor above that all have mechanical and storage space.
