Cruise Night Brings Cars, Tunes To West End

LONG BRANCH: Antiques and spiffy later model cars filled the streets and parking areas around West End Park on Saturday, Aug. 15.

An estimated 5,000 onlookers and car fans oohed and aahed as their favorites caught their eye. The weather was perfect. The delight was plentiful.

To add to the enjoyment, the music was top notch as well. With the Familiar Faces band in the park's bandbox singing Nashville Rock, the main stage near the railroad tuned up with the blues and rock of the Rave On band.

The crowd in their home-carried folding chairs were excited and waiting for Long Branch's favorite vocalist Reanna Runge. She has been singing at the event since she was 10. Now a university student at Jersey City, her voice has also matured, become stronger and her range even more reaching.

Her second number was a tribute to her parents. She thrilled the audience; they loved her.

Like the music, the cars were from many generations and genre. The Imports to Model A Fords had grownups and kids ogling. Word on the Shore caught a few of them in photos, a tough decision of which ones to shoot.

Mid-way through the program Mayor Adam Schneider dipped into the 50-50 bucket to get the winner of the $640 prize. It went to a local man who rushed up to the stage, thanked the officials and ran back to his seat for the show to reconvene.

Another successful fun time at the Jersey Shore, at Long Branch where the beachgoers have had a great year.
