SEA BRIGHT:The borough is taking steps to become more bicycle-friendly and an upcoming event will kick off the initiative.
Cycle Sea Bright Day has been scheduled for May 10 at 8:30 a.m. on Imbrie Place.
The borough has joined the Complete Streets National Movement to create safer streets and trails for bikers and pedestrians of all ages and abilities and Cycle Sea Bright is designed to encourage walking and cycling for a healthier life.
Ages 12 and older will bike from Imbrie Place to the center of town, while ages 11 and younger will ride the Bike Rodeo. All participants will can win a free bicycle, courtesy of Sea Bright businesses Beach Burgers & Grille, and Gracie and the Dudes.
The event is hosted by Sea Bright Recreation, the Sea Bright Police Department, and the Sustainable Sea Bright Committee.
Cycle Sea Bright Day will also feature the dedication of a DERO Fix It Station that will enable riders to fill their tires with air and make minor repairs to their bicycles. The station has been installed at the Sea Bright bus stop but will eventually move to the new community center once it is completed.
There have also been meetings between borough staff and community members with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to discuss the implementation of pedestrian and cyclist-friendly improvements along Ocean Avenue.
A feasibility study will be performed to see if it is possible for add bike lanes, back-in angle parking, bike racks, signage, repair facilities and public restrooms on Ocean Avenue.
