Developer Unveils Plans For Former Jake's Gym Site in Long Branch

LONG BRANCH: The city's list of upcoming condominium development projects continues to grow.

A developer is looking to build 33-unit, 6-floor building on the site of the now-closed Jake's Gym at 290 Ocean Avenue. The gym has been closed for almost 3 years and a vacant building now sits on the lot.

The development, known as The Bluffs, was described by project architect Michael Monroe at the July 28 Long Branch Council meeting.

The project features two gate houses and a variety of different-sized units with balconies.

The building will have a 78-space parking garage contained on its first floor.

Monroe said the building will be 80-feet tall at its highest point but that is only at the very center of the structure.

The project is located in the city's Beachfront South redevelopment zone, so the developer must be approved by the Long Branch Council before obtaining final approval from the Long Branch Planning Board or Zoning Board.

The project would be located next to another proposed condo development in the former home of the Cabana Club, which was presented to the council earlier this month.
