LONG BRANCH: City officials are hoping to see construction of the third phase of Pier Village begin this fall.
"The question people are frequently asking is Pier Village Phase 3 and when is that going to get moving," Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley said at the June 18 Greater Long Branch Area Business meeting.
The third phase of Pier Village will be located on the large oceanfront lot of land between Melrose Terrace and Morris Avenue, just south of the first and second phases of the development.
Woolley said the developer has come to the city with some modifications to the plans approved in 2012.
"We are working through the modifications with them and its our hope that we can be underway with construction this fall, at least on the hotel which is the front piece on that triangle as you drive down south of Melrose, you can see the roadway already set up for that," Woolley said.
Woolley said the congestion in the area would make it hard to begin construction in the summer.
"The developer also owns Pier Village 1 and 2 and does not want to be under construction during the summer time when we are mobbed down there," he said.
The 59,810-square-foot-hotel is part of the first phase of the new section of Pier Village. The first phase also includes 60 condominium units, 27,905 square feet of leasable retail space, an ocean-themed carousel, boardwalk improvements and infrastructure, a children's play area and a stage.
