Eatontown Hosts Annual Labor Day 5K

EATONTOWN: Race day temperatures in the high 60's provided ideal conditions for the Eatontown 22st Annual Eatontown 5K Labor Day Run/Walk.

Participants had three events from which to choose; the 1 Mile run, the 5k Fitness Walk and the 5k Run. All events started and finished at the Eatontown Sheraton Parking lot.

Overall 5k race winner was John Drury of Eatontown with a time of 21:04. First place in the women's division was a tie with Stacey Lepes of Toms River and Alie Gomes of Tinton Falls both crossing the finish line in 22:25. Winners of the Mayor's Trophy for first men and women Eatontown finishers were Dan Drury and Faith Williams (24.38).

The 1 Mile race winner was Derek Giordano followed by Savannah Danz and Jeffrey Petz Jr.

After the races, runners and their families gathered inside the Sheraton hotel for post race refreshments and the awards ceremony. Trophies were presented to 1st , 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age group by Eatontown Mayor Dennis Connelly. All children 13 and under who took part in the one mile run also received medals. Director Of Recreation Janice Grasso noted that "it takes a village to make this happen" with Mayor Connelly adding that "it still takes one persona to lead that village and that person is Janice Grasso".

Director Grasso thanked all who participated as well as everyone who helped to make the day possible including the Eatontown Mayor and Council, the Borough Administrator, the Eatontown Department of Public Works, Eatontown First Aid, Eatontown Police Department, Eatontown Traffic Safety, Eatontown Fire Police, Eatontown Recreation Advisory Committee volunteers, the Sheraton Staff and Kathy Cipriano along with all of the local businesses that had donated prizes.

Director Grasso also thanked the race sponsors including World Auto Group, Buhler Ford, Celtic Concepts Landscape Contractors, Circle Motorsports & BMW, DCH Auto Group, Duke & Debbie, Earth Treasures, Eatontown Lions Club, Eatontown PBA Local 305, Gluck Walrath LLP, Latin American Dist. Co., New Jersey Natural Gas Co. and the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel and T & M Associates.
