EATONTOWN: Inspired by a neighbor who had previously volunteered at Ronald McDonald House in Long Branch, Eatontown resident Georgia Marcouiller took it upon herself to collect donated gifts for current and former guests of the home.
Georgia, a resident of Eatontown who is a sophomore at Monmouth Regional High School, started the project by first contacting the director of the facility which s provides a true "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children receiving care at medical facilities near its location.
After being provided a list of gifts for the children as well as other items such as diapers, Georgia contacted the Eatontown School District and received permission to send a note home to each family in the district via the districts Parent Portal (direct mail to parents) or via hard copy letter.
The response was overwhelming with over 400 gifts generously provided by teachers, parents and students. On Saturday, Dec. 12, Georgia delivered the gifts to Ronald McDonald House where Santa was on hand to help distribute the presents to the families of 60 children.
A fun time was had by all and Georgia plans to continue assistance to families at the home in the near future.
