FMERA Board Hopes to Have Marina Operator In Place This Season

OCEANPORT: The marina located in the borough’s section of Fort Monmouth could have an operator by this season.

“FMERA (Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority) has prepared an RFP (request for proposals) for an operator for the Marina for this season,” FMERA Executive Director Bruce Steadman said. “The responses are due back on May 12.”

A request for offers to purchase (RFOTP) was issued for the 3.9 acre parcel in October, and the FMERA board has begun to evaluate them.

However, Steadman said a purchaser will not be chosen before the start of this year’s boating season.

“Because the Army is unable to transfer title at this time, we will lease the marina from the Army and open it via an operator,” Steadman said. “We anticipate that the Marina title will be transferred by the end of 2014, and that we will be able to sell it prior to the 2015 season.”

The property consists of a 71-slip marina and boat launch ramp on Oceanport Creek, a 2,600 square foot boat house and associated off-street parking.

The Fort Monmouth Reuse Plan for the property envisions a marina/public boat ramp/restaurant on the property.

Oceanport leased the marina in 2013 but was unable to find a suitable bidder to operate the facility.
