These Long Branch boardwalk "comfort stations" will have bathrooms and concession stands.
LONGBRANCH: Beachgoers will be able to grab a quick bite to eat on their way down to the sand this summer on the city's new boardwalk.
The new boardwalk has comfort stations with bathrooms and cooking areas located at West End Avenue and Bath Avenue. There is a third located at Cottage Place that has space for a cooking area, but not the necessary equipment.
The Long Branch Council passed a resolution during its Jan. 26 meeting establishing the terms and conditions for leasing space in the comfort stations. The plan is to have one of the chosen vendors outfit the Cottage Place station with cooking equipment and simply move in to the other two.
Food vendors will bid for the space in the three comfort stations and the city will chose among the highest responsible bidder once all the submissions are made by mid-February. The minimum bid for each space has been set at an annual rate of $21,000. The council will have to review and accept the decision at its second February meeting.
Each lease will have a 3-year term that will run from April 1-Sept. 30 from 2016-18.
Woolley has said there is at least one local food establishment which has expressed interest in leasing the space.
