LONG BRANCH: A former city restaurant will be demolished to make way for a mixed use development in the coming months.
A developer, Dynamic Ventures Group, LLC, was given site plan approval by the Long Branch Planning Board on Oct. 17 to knock down the old Casey Jones restaurant and replace it with a 5-story structure which combines retail and residential units.
The restaurant, located on the corner of Third Avenue and Morris Avenue, closed in 2009 and the property was later acquired by the developer.
The board unanimously voted to approve the project after a lengthy presentation was made detailing all the components of the project.
The building will have 4,700 square feet of retail on the first floor facing Third Avenue and will have 6 1-bedroom and 30 2-bedroom units on the upper floors. The upper floors will also have 400 square feet of office space and a 200-seat assembly hall which will act as community center for the building's tenants. It will also have a parking deck.
One of the owners of the project told Word On The Shore that they have not yet begun to market the retail spaces but are looking to attract service-related uses and possibly a coffee shop.
