Fundraiser Reflects 'Anything We Can Do' Theme

Ocean Township: This past weekend the Oceanport PTO held their annual gift auction and fundraiser at the Buona Sera Palazzo in Ocean Township.

For months President Mary Alyce Turner, Treasurer Katie Lockwood, Recording Secretary Anna Barrfield, Corresponding Secretary Kim Vaughan, 2nd Vice Chair Dawn Weiss, and 3rd Vice Chair Tin Drahos have worked tirelessly to coordinate donations, reservations, sponsorships, and everything that goes into making such a large event happen.

Oceanport supporters and those that attended were able to bid on 275 gifts that ranged in value from $25 to $1400. All of the money raised from the event goes directly back into the school district. President Turner emphasized that the money raised will benefit the “cultural arts programs, teacher wish lists, technology, and anything else we can do to help the district.” President Turner equated the power of this event to the role of a grandparent by “unconditionally helping without asking.”

Prior to the start of the event, the PTO had raised over $6500 through a multi-level sponsorship program. Platinum and Gold level sponsors include: World Subaru, Cauto’s Bakery, Navesink Marina, Poulos LoPiccolo Attorneys At Law, Metaline Products.

The event was well attended by Oceanport administrators, teachers, faculty staff and community members. It seemed as though every seat was sold out for the event.

After an hour of ticket dropping, the large crowd settled in for their salads, pasta and dinner. As the crowd ate their food the PTO staff picked tickets and started to distribute gifts to one lucky winner at a time.

As each ticket was pulled excitement began to build. Clearly, everyone was having fun regardless if they won a prize.  The event lasted for a little over four hours before the night came to a close.

By the end of the evening the Oceanport PTO fundraiser had exceeded expectations by $7,000 raising close to $22,000, all of which goes directly back into the school system.
