Incumbents Sweep Ocean Township Election

OCEAN TOWNSHIP: The incumbent Ocean Township Council slate, One Ocean, took all seats in the May 12 election by a margin of about 2 to 1 on a day that saw double the usual number of local voters.

One Ocean took each district by wide margins, with Mayor Chris Siciliano's high tally of 2,873 votes, 75 percent, compared to the Ocean Together's top vote-getter Sylvia Sylvia who captured 1,282 votes, highest on the Ocean Together team.

On the scoreboard following Siciliano for One Ocean was Donna Schepiga, 2,384, Rich Long, 2,501, Rob Acerra, 2,648 and Bill Garofalo, 2,671.

Of the 18,606 registered voters in the township, 3,834 ballots were cast, yielding 20.6 percent, a good turnout compared to the last election of only 10%.

The results are still preliminary as they have not yet been certified by the Monmouth County Clerk.
