Juveniles Identified In Ocean Township Christmas Decoration Thefts

OCEAN TOWNSHIP: The following is a press release from the Ocean Township Police Department:

On Dec. 13, individuals were observed on a surveillance system stealing Christmas decorations from a Timber Drive residence. Officer Tom Rant responded to the location where he spoke with the victim and was able review the surveillance footage.

A subsequent investigation on Dec. 15th by Detective Jesse Orbach led to the identification of three youths. During the investigation Orbach was able to recover the stolen decorations and return them to the victim's on Timber Drive and Pinewood Avenue.

Charges for all three juveniles will be forwarded to the Monmouth County Family Division Court in Freehold for disposition.

Here are a few tips that may help you avoid becoming a holiday decoration theft victim:

- Use locking cords on decorations that plug into electrical outlets.
- Connect zip ties to power cables to further fasten them to nearby fences, trees and other barriers.
- Position the most expensive decorations close to your home, near windows or up on your roof.
- Use motion controlled lighting and security cameras.
