Long Branch Board of Education Newcomer Narrowly Edges Incumbent

LONG BRANCH: Two incumbents will see their terms on the Long Branch Board of Education continue next year, but their running mate will not be joining them.

Bill Dangler, Mary George and were reelected in last week's General Election, but newcomer Caroline Bennett claimed the third seat on the board. The county clerk finalized the results at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 and found that Bennett narrowly edged incumbent Lucille Perez for the third spot by three votes.

Bennett totaled 918 votes while Perez received 915. Those totals include mail-in ballots as well as provisional ballots, which were finalized this week. The vote was too close following the Nov. 3 election, so the provisional votes ended up being the deciding factor.

The totals following the election were 911 votes for Bennett and 910 for Perez.

George was the top vote-getter with 1,221 and Dangler received 1,118.
