One of the city's latest redevelopment projects will be opening soon in the form of a 13,013-square-foot CVS in the Broadway Gateway area.
The CVS will contain 60 new parking spaces and single-lane drive thru that would allow customers to pick up their prescriptions. The main entrance to the building will be located on South Broadway.
The Long Branch Planning Board approved Hartford Realty Group's application to build the drug store on a parcel bordered by Ocean Boulevard, South Broadway, North Broadway and Long Branch Avenue. The lot formerly contained an autobody shop and a used car lot known as Town Auto Sales that were both demolished in 2014.
The CVS will have more of a seaport look and was designed to have some of the features included in Pier Village such decorative lighting. It will also feature new shade trees and sidewalks and will be made of a more durable material than the stucco that is usually used at other locations. Stucco does not hold up well in areas next to the ocean because the salt water in the air can damage it.
The former property owners, Fuschia Triangle and Patty Cicalese, agreed to sell the property to First Hartford Realty Group in 2013 after years of litigation between themselves and the city. The city was able to settle the lawsuit and come up with the redevelopment plan to build the CVS on the property.
