Long Branch Police Officer Suffers Minor Injuries in Crash

LONG BRANCH: A city police officer suffered minor injuries when his car was struck by another on Saturday morning, March 15.

A car carrying four passengers collided with Officer Richard O’Brien’s car near the intersection Third and Franklin Avenues around 3 a.m., according to a post on the Long Branch Police Department Facebook page.

“It appears that the other vehicle crossed into O'Brien's lane while fleeing from a fight that they were involved in and that alcohol may have been involved,” the post states. “Officer O'Brien is very lucky to have avoided serious injury in this accident and we could not be more pleased to share that he okay.”

Police say the Long Branch Fire Department had to assist in removing the passengers from the vehicles.
Two of the passengers from the other vehicle were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
The post states that there is no information currently available on the other passengers’ injuries or ID’s.
