LONG BRANCH:For a seventh year the Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade pleased pet people and participants, particularly owners, parents and pint-sized youngsters on Saturday at West End Park.
The gala, family-oriented event featured fabulous food, merry merchants, and creative crafters, all combined with children's activities including firetruck rides, TOUCH THE TRUCK, pumpkin painting and Build a Scarecrow!
The "bounce house" ride had to be cancelled as warm but strong breezes caused safety concerns, said Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director Nancy Kleiberg. Brighton Avenue was closed for the day to vehicular traffic
The highlight of the afternoon, the Pooch Parade was a plethora of pawed participants, 26 a new record for the summer panoply.
First Place went to a visiting Puggle named Bella brought to the event by Michelle Fugett from Old Bridge. Second went to Benji whose friend is Lia Parameritis of Long Branch. Third prize winner was Donna Shawn's Taylor, a Long Branch canine cutie.
