Long Branch Schools and Rotary Join in Food Drive

WEST LONG BRANCH: The annual Thanksgiving Food Drive by the Greater Long Branch Rotary Club, in concert with the city schools, collected an estimated 400 meals with about 100 families benefiting over the pre-Thanksgiving weekend.

The event was at the West Long Brach Shop Rite, which welcome the Club each year.

Shoppers were most generous in their giving, with several donating their Shop Rite frozen turkeys and hams they received for shopping at the store.

Fifth graders from the Long Branch Middle school were at the store lobby assisting the Club and were guided by volunteer teachers and administrators.

The next event is before the Christmas celebration when the donations will again be collected, Dec. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. It has proven to be a welcome program for assisting the needy neighbors in the area.
