LONG BRANCH: A tradition at the Long Brand Senior Center on Second Avenue is the luncheon where seniors host the Mayor and Council.
Senior center Director coordinates the whole occasion with lots of assistance from the staff who love to make the seniors comfy each week. For this day volunteers rounded out the team that made the luncheon a success.
The event also gives the senior community a chance to informally visit with the special guests to share opinions and hear about what City Hall is thinking.
It is not a stodgy affair with lots of political chatter. In fact, Andy McDonough plays his keyboard and sings songs from "back in the day" music selections that got seniors out of their chairs to try a Foxtrot, jitterbug or some light footed music with a beat. Singalong was encouraged, as well.
The food was a full course meal with salad and entre, complete with desert. Coffee, tea and soft drinks added to the palate pleasing meals.
About 98 guests made up the total of a full two hours plus of friendship and sociability.
