Sandy Hook: Under a canopy filled with parents, school officials and representatives of the military academies, the class of 69 seniors of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology received their high school diploma from MCDSV Board President Clement Sommers. The ceremony was held at the campus still in repair, on Pershing Field at Sandy Hook.
All 69 have been accepted at colleges and universities, most in New Jersey, including 11 going on to the military institutes.
Class President Jessica Casamassima delivered “Greetings from the Senior Class”. She acknowledged the leadership her classmates had provided to underclassmen. “It’s the people that make the school, “she said. We made it together. We are one of a kind.”

During the year the school, staff and students bore up under challenging circumstances, Hurricane Sandy being one of them, that forced the closing of school buildings. Parents helped immensely, officials said.
Days after the October storm the school had relocated to St. Joseph’s in Keyport and moved on quickly to the work ahead.
