Monmouth University Student Dies In Ocean Township Crash

OCEAN TOWNSHIP: A 20-year-old Monmouth University student died as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Ocean Township early Saturday morning, Feb. 3, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

The single-car crash occurred around 2:39 a.m. in the area of South Lincoln Avenue near Oakwood Avenue, according to a release from the Ocean Township Police Department. The vehicle veered off the eastbound roadway in the area of 223 South Lincoln Ave., struck multiple objects and finally stopped after hitting a tree.

Dane M. Fante, 20, of Moorestown, was the passenger in a 2006 Audi AA8 driven by Jose R. Rivera, 21, of Lyndhurst. Fante was pronounced dead at Monmouth Medical Center at 3:24 a.m. The driver, Rivera, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Rivera is also a student at Monmouth University.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Ocean Township Police Department.
