LONG BRANCH: Three more city beach entrances will close over the next two weeks as boardwalk construction continues northward.
A message on the city's web site states that the South Bath Avenue beach entrance will close on or about Monday, July 20.
"Ocean Avenue from North Bath Avenue to South Bath Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic," the message states. "There will be sidewalk access for pedestrians."
Construction fencing will also be erected on the beach from North Bath Avenue to Pavilion Avenue.
The North Bath Avenue beach entrance is slated to close on or around Monday, July 27.
The contractor is trying to keep the Cottage Avenue beach entrance open for as long as possible while the other beach entrances north of it begin to close.
Cottage Avenue's stairway beach entrance will also close or about Aug. 1, but the city now plans to provide a temporary access point in the same location.
Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley said this week that the Brighton Avenue and West End Avenue beach entrances are unlikely to reopen this summer as well.
The city's web site states that more updates on future beach entrance closures will continue over the next few weeks. We'll post any of those updates here for our readers.
