LONG BRANCH: The city has announced more road closures and beach entrance closures as construction of the new boardwalk continues.
Ocean Avenue from North Bath Avenue to Pavilion Avenue is now closed to all vehicular traffic. Pavilion Avenue to Morris Avenue will remain open until on or about the week of Aug. 24. There will be sidewalk access to pedestrians.
Construction fencing will be erected on the beach from North Bath Avenue to Pavilion Avenue and will be extended to Morris Avenue.
This week, the North Bath Avenue stairs beach access will be closed.
The existing stairway at Cottage Place has been removed and temporary beach access has been provided.
As of last week, already about 100 feet of decking has been laid down in the West End area of the boardwalk.
The construction of the first of three pavilions with concession stands and bathrooms will begin on Sept. 24 in West End as well.
Woolley said with a "decent winter" the boardwalk reconstruction project should be able to be substantially completed before Memorial Day.
He said the summer season has been busy even with the construction-realted closures along the beachfront.
"We're still very busy despite that we are a few beach entrances down," Woolley said.
