New Monmouth County ShopRite Planned

A new ShoRite has been proposed for 1151-1163 Shrewsbury Avenue in the Shrewsbury Business Center complex in Shrewsbury.

The proposal by SBC Holdings includes the demolition of three "largely untenanted" vacant buildings in the in the Shrewsbury Business Center complex and the construction of the 88,230 square-foot grocery store, according to a public notice. The grocery store would be a Saker Shop Rite and would be similar to the West Long Branch location on the corner of Monmouth Road and Route 36.

The proposal was first heard by the Shrewsbury Zoning Board of Adjustment on Sept. 28 and no decision was made by the board. The hearing is before the zoning board because a supermarket is not a permitted use in the borough's Light Industrial Zone.

No date has been set for the next time the board will hear testimony from SBC Holdings.
