New Pastor Welcomed at Christ the King Church In Long Branch

LONG BRANCH: Reverend Fr. Javier Diaz was welcomed to Christ the King Parish at a reception in his honor held at Holy Trinity Church on Prospect Street, one of the two churches that make up Christ the King. The second church is Our Lady Star of the Sea on Second Avenue. Worshippers from both churches attended the light refreshments event to meet the new Pastor.

Father Diaz used the opportunity to meet the gathering with an informal walk-around visit to the many tables set up for the celebration. At the get-together were members of the several parish council church groups.

One group, the Tercos Dos Homens, a Rosary society, presented Father Diaz with one of their light blue sports shirts, which he hastily unpackaged and pulled on over his usual garb. Pausing for a photo with the group, he was delighted to have such a group among the church membership. The group meets each Thursday at the Holy Trinity Church at 8 p.m.

Born and raised in Columbia, South America, Father Diaz a=was ordained on May 16, 1998. His first assignment was S. Mary's Cathedral, later to Princeton and serves as Director of Spanish Communities services. He just returned from a 3-yrear study in Canon Law in Rome, immediately prior to Christ the King.

He serves as a judge in the Trenton Pascal Council.

"I am getting familiar with the church community here is Long Branch," he said. He hopes "to help the parish members to grow spiritually in their love of God and the Eucharist."

The guests assembled informally as he led them in prayer.
