NJ Transit Offering Express Trains To Beach Towns

LONG BRANCH: NJ Transit is looking to make it easier and quicker for people to get to their favorite beaches this summer.

As of June 28, NJ Transit is running four roundtrip express trains on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through Sept. 1.

The trains will make stops at New York Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, Elizabeth, Rahway, Aberdeen-Matawan, Red Bank, Long Branch, Asbury Park, and all station stops to Bay Head. Passengers will not have to change trains at the Long Branch Train Station in order to head further south when riding the express trains.

A travel time savings of approximately 25 minutes is expected from the normal travel time between New York and stations such as Belmar and Manasquan, according to a release from Monmouth County.

“According to the study, Monmouth County is the most popular destination for weekend visitors and the majority of the visitors are coming for day trips,” Monmouth County Freeholder Thomas Arnone said in the release. “These riders are spending between $14 and $16 million dollars during summer weekends and deserve a fast, convenient way to get to and from the Shore. The new express trains offer convenience to our beachgoers with early morning and late night timeframes.”

Passengers can purchase tickets for the express service at ticket windows and vending machines at their train station.
