OCEAN TOWNSHIP: National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
The evening went just right. Hundreds of residents visited the Wegman's parking lot on the highway where OT police officers, their equipment and vehicles were there for youngsters- and oldsters- could get a close look and even get inside with PD assistance and explanations.
OT Police Chief Steve Peters was at the site to greet residents and welcome all, with a message to share. "The National Night Out gives us, including the fire and first aiders, an opportunity to meet our townspeople in a public and friendly environment. We are able to be well set up each year. We appreciate the assist from the Ocean departments and officials, plus the county and others. "
"We can't thank Wegmans enough for all they do." They provided food and treats for their neighbors, and employees to serve the visitors.
"They were very gracious hosts," Chief Peters said.
Various local groups, agencies and business displays were there in support, as were Council members, Rob Acerra, Rich Long and Dona Schepiga in the early hours, with the mayor Siciliano later.
For everyone it was a pleasant way to say hello and build understanding for the township.
