Ocean Police Investigating Large Brush Fire

OCEAN TOWNSHIP: Police say they are investigating a large brush fire that occurred on May 12 on the north end of Clearview Drive.

The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. but was extinguished quickly with the help of the Oakhurst and Wanamassa Fire Departments, along with the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service.

About one acre of land was burned but no injured were reported.

However, police say they are investigating a report of teenagers feeling the area of the fire before it was reported.

"An investigation revealed that several teens were seen fleeing the area in two separate cars just prior to the fire being reported," Detective Lieutenant Kevin L. Faller said in a release.

Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact the Township of Ocean Criminal Investigation Bureau at 732-531-1800 or crimetips at 732-531-3323 or by email at crimetips@oceantwp.org.
