Ocean Township:Two thousand tree saplings from the NJ Community Forestry Program will be given out free between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at BJ’s Wholesale Store on Highway 35 in Oakhurst.
The saplings will be Bayberry, Redbud, White Dogwood, Black Gum and Willow, as well as tubelings of Norway Spruce and Douglas Fir. The Ocean Township Shade Tree Commission is hosting the event and those who attend do not need to be Ocean Township residents to receive trees.
Instructions on planting the trees will be included. Packages of five trees each will be handed out and those residents requiring fewer than 5 will be helped by commission volunteers to take fewer.
“Trees left over, if any, will be kept in a protected area in Palaia Park,” said Shade Tree Commission Chairwoman Laurel Von Gerichten.
