Ocean Township: With just under 20% of registered 20,106 voters, a low and bad weather turnout of sorts, the preliminary leads in the Council race was newcomer Maggie Donlon, with present mayor Christopher Siciliano in the second place,
The count is still preliminary. "Mail-ins" and" Provisionals" could turn the tide. Even to the final total Council members.
Candidate Maggie Donlon brought in 2,678 votes to Siciliano's 2,463.
Final results will be out Friday, May 17, after County officials finalize the count and can include mail-ins and Provisionals.
It looks as if the total 5 council positions await the final count; and at this point even the fifth slot is a close call.
Names and prelim votes were: Donlon, 2,678, Siciliano 2,463. Fisher 2,425, Napolitani 2,234 and Acerra 2,268. The 5 highest for now. But keep in mind that Schepiga had 2,200; Wenzel got 1,852.
Pogwist had a nice 1,486, acknowledgement to his decade of contribution to the town's Environmental Commission, plus key planning and developing projects, and his many environmental success roles.
The future township directions of change brought open discussions to the race, and many believe, may have influenced some of the outcome. Current views are concerns for open space, traffic, over development, environment, history and the town's character, its "Community of Gracious Living"
