OCEAN TOWNSHIP:The latest council workshop meeting included an open ended discussion of the new tennis complex off West Park Avenue which is still in the planning stages.
Mayor Chris Siciliano and the members had a blueprint and some rendering art work to bounce ideas off each other as to suggestions about the appearance and functionality of the building that will be the tennis courts. It goes to the Planning Board later.
In other council news, the new property re-assessment process in underway with about 400 properties completed, commercial and residential. Also a new ordinance (# 2249) is introduced for amending Chapter 21, the Comprehensive Land Development Ordinance for the town. It add provisions for "Affordable Flats" rules for a "Wellness Center", a new category, different from health centers as they require less parking and other conditions.
That is a work-in-progress with Planning. Amendments are probably coming and Council is looking into conferring with towns around to get ideas all may find helpful. The pubic maybe invited, "To be determined."
A 2016 Calendar is in its infancy with photos being sought.
A CDBG grant for capital projects has been applied for, with a good chance of passing. It deals with sidewalks along West Park and looks like it is 4th in the awards list.
Under consideration is a rule on electronic cigarettes and their use on public property like the town pool. The ban on inside use stands, but what to do outside is up in the air. Some places have banned the use, like beaches. Enforcement has been off and on, with some success. Smokers don't like the idea, especially if they are stopped for long periods of the day. Tough for them but also tough for the others nearby who have to breathe in the unwanted smoke.
